OPENING PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank you for being the perfect Father from whom all families derive their name. As we gather today, open our hearts to receive your love and wisdom. Help us learn how to love our families with the same sacrificial love that Jesus demonstrated. Guide our conversation and show us practical ways to strengthen our families through your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
ICEBREAKER
Family Traditions: Share a meaningful family tradition (from your childhood or one you've created) that has helped build connection and love in your family. If you don't have a traditional family structure, share about a meaningful tradition you've experienced in your "chosen family" or community.
SCRIPTURE FOCUS
Take turns reading these passages aloud:
- Ephesians 3:14-15 - "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name."
- 1 John 4:19 - "We love because he first loved us."
- Philippians 2:5-8 - "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"

1. God's Love: The Foundation for Family

- Which family relationship most needs the transforming power of sacrificial love right now?
- Who outside my immediate family might God be calling me to include in my circle of love?
GROUP ACTIVITY: Family Love Languages
Materials needed: Small pieces of paper, pens
Instructions:
- Have each person write down their primary love language (Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, or Physical Touch). If someone isn't familiar with love languages, briefly explain them.
- Next, have them write down what they think is the primary love language of one family member they're close to.
- In pairs, discuss:
- How might understanding your own and others' love languages help you love more effectively?
- What's one specific way you could express love to that family member this week in their love language?
- Come back together as a group and share insights from your discussions.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the gift of family in all its forms. Help us to receive your love daily so that we can love others from your abundant supply rather than our limited resources. Give us courage to love sacrificially, even when it's difficult. Open our eyes to see who you might be calling us to include in our circle of love. Transform our families from the inside out so that they become powerful witnesses of your love to a world that desperately needs it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
TAKE-HOME CHALLENGE
Choose one of these practical steps to implement this week:
Reconnect with God's love daily: Set aside 10 minutes each day this week to experience God's love for you personally through prayer, Scripture reading, or simply sitting in God's presence.
Choose one act of sacrificial love each day: Identify one specific way you can put someone else's needs before your own within your family each day this week. Write these down and reflect on how they impact your relationships.
Extend your family circle: Pray about who God might be calling your family to include. Then take a practical step to reach out to that person—invite them for dinner, send a care package, or schedule a coffee date.
Next week, be prepared to share how your chosen challenge impacted your family relationships and what you learned through the experience.
