This 5-day devotional draws directly from the sermon “Showcase - 12:30pm Sunday Service | Live from Rossview” so you can keep engaging with the message all week. Read, reflect, and share it with your small group or friends.
You Don't Have to Do This Alone
Monday — Understanding the Truth
Have you ever felt like following God was just one more thing on your to-do list — something you had to work harder at, try better at, push through on your own?
Today's Scripture "It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you." — John 16:7
Reflection Jesus said something that must have stunned his closest friends: "It's actually better that I leave." Better? How could that be?
Here's what he meant. When Jesus walked the earth, he could only be in one place at a time. But when he returned to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit, something remarkable happened — God himself came to live inside every person who trusts in Jesus. Not near you. Not watching from a distance. In you.
The Holy Spirit isn't a force or a feeling. He's God — fully, completely God — the same Spirit who hovered over creation at the beginning of time, who now takes up residence in ordinary people like you and me.
This changes everything about how you approach your day. You're not trying to live for God on your own strength. You're not white-knuckling your way through temptation or grinding out a spiritual life through sheer willpower. God himself is in you, ready to help, empower, and guide you.
That's not a small thing. That's the whole point.
Today's Step Pause for a moment and let this sink in: God is not far away — he is in you. What would change today if you actually lived like that were true?
A Closing Thought The same Spirit who spoke the universe into existence wants to speak into your life today. You don't have to face this day alone.
When Trying Hard Isn't Enough
Tuesday — When It's Hard
Be honest — have you ever said, "I'm trying to be better"? And then felt exhausted by how little it seemed to work?
Today's Scripture "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." — Galatians 5:17
Reflection There's a tension most of us know well. You want to be more patient, more kind, less anxious, less selfish. You mean it. You try. And then life happens — a hard conversation, a bad day, a familiar temptation — and you find yourself right back where you started.
Here's what's actually going on: you're trying to do in your own power what only God's Spirit can do in you. That's not a character flaw. It's just the wrong approach.
The Christian life was never designed to run on willpower. When we leave the Holy Spirit out of the equation, faith becomes an exhausting performance — a constant effort to be good enough. And that kind of Christianity will wear you out.
The struggle is real. The gap between who you want to be and who you are on a Tuesday afternoon is real. But that gap isn't meant to shame you. It's meant to show you that you need more than effort — you need the Spirit of God working in you.
You're not failing because you're weak. You're struggling because you were never meant to do this alone.
Today's Step Instead of trying harder today, try this: simply tell God, "I can't do this on my own — I need you." That honest prayer is exactly where the Holy Spirit loves to show up.
A Closing Thought God isn't disappointed that you're tired of trying. He's been waiting for you to let him take over.
Three Prayers That Change Everything
Wednesday — Putting It Into Practice
What if the most powerful thing you did today took less than two minutes and didn't require you to have it all together?
Today's Scripture "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." — Psalm 139:23–24
Reflection Living a Spirit-filled life isn't about having dramatic experiences or doing everything right. It starts with a simple, daily posture of invitation. Three short prayers can reorient your whole day.
"Holy Spirit, show me." Ask God to search your heart — not to condemn you, but to clear the way. What in your life might be crowding him out? Bitterness toward someone? A habit you've been ignoring? A worry you've been carrying alone? Invite him to shine a light.
"Holy Spirit, fill me." This is a prayer you can pray every single morning. Not because the Spirit leaves you overnight, but because you're choosing to surrender your day to him rather than running it yourself. Fill me. Overflow in me. I don't want to do today on my own.
"Holy Spirit, use me." This one opens your eyes to the people around you — the coworker who seems off, the friend who needs a text, the stranger who needs kindness. When you ask God to use you, he tends to answer.
These aren't complicated prayers. They're honest ones. And honest prayers, offered daily, are how an ordinary life becomes a Spirit-led one.
Today's Step Try praying all three — show me, fill me, use me — before you get out of bed or before you leave the house tomorrow morning. Just one week of this can shift something in you.
A Closing Thought God doesn't need you to be impressive. He just needs you to be available.
The Difference the Spirit Makes
Thursday — What This Looks Like in Real Life
Imagine someone who has been running on empty for years — doing all the right things, showing up, trying hard — but feeling hollow inside, like faith is a duty rather than a life.
Today's Scripture "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." — Galatians 5:22–23
Reflection Picture someone like that — maybe you've been that person, or you know someone who has. They're not a bad person. They believe in God. They go to church. But somewhere along the way, faith started feeling like a performance they could never quite pull off.
Then something shifts. Not a dramatic event, but a quiet surrender — a moment of saying, I can't keep doing this in my own strength. I need more of you, God. And they begin, slowly, to invite the Holy Spirit into the ordinary moments. The morning commute. The hard conversation. The moment of temptation.
What changes isn't their circumstances. What changes is what's growing inside them. The impatience that used to flare starts to soften. The anxiety that used to spiral starts to settle. They find themselves genuinely caring about people they used to overlook.
That's not self-improvement. That's fruit. And fruit doesn't come from trying harder — it comes from staying connected to the right source.
The Spirit doesn't make you a different person. He makes you more fully who God created you to be.
Today's Step Think about one area of your life where you've been straining in your own strength. What would it look like to hand that specific thing over to the Holy Spirit today?
A Closing Thought You can't manufacture love, joy, or peace — but you can stay close to the One who grows them in you naturally.
Take This With You
Friday — Carrying It Forward
The week is almost over. Before the weekend pulls you in a dozen directions, take sixty seconds to remember what you've been sitting with all week.
Today's Scripture "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit." — Galatians 5:25
Reflection This verse is beautifully simple. If the Spirit is in you — and he is, if you've placed your trust in Jesus — then the invitation is to keep in step with him. Not sprint ahead. Not lag behind. Just walk in rhythm with the God who is already in you.
This week you've been reminded of something important: you are not alone in your faith. You were never meant to be. The same God who created the universe, who sent his Son to rescue you, has also sent his Spirit to live inside you — to help you, lead you, empower you, and make you more like Christ.
That doesn't expire on Sunday morning. It's not just for church. It's for the hard conversation you'll have this weekend. The quiet moment when you're tempted to go back to an old habit. The family dinner that could go sideways. The Monday morning that's already looming.
Keep inviting him in. Keep praying those three prayers — show me, fill me, use me. Keep your hands open to what God wants to do in and through you.
You're not on your own. You never have been.
Today's Step As you head into the weekend, carry this one thought with you: The Holy Spirit is with me right now, and he's not going anywhere. Let that settle something in you.
A Closing Thought The life God has for you isn't something you have to achieve — it's something you receive, one surrendered day at a time.
